Höflmaier is a pair of two young guys on a mission to withhold tradition and produce a multitude of delicious organic dairy products like cheese, butter, sour-cream and yoghurt. The factory where they are produced was owned by their grandfather in 1931, so there is a great desire to respect the past, but on the other hand a need to push the brand in new directions.
The first challenge for the design was to refresh the picture style of the products to create a more traditional feel. This was done using traditional Austrian utensils combined with lots of raw wood. All of this was topped off with a warm yet neutral colour balance. The idea was this would invoke the feeling of being at a traditional Austrian picnic in the Alps. Some old feelings were also retained by illustrating individual herbs and fruits in a monotone dot pattern.
For keeping the brand fresh and creamy, we decided to use the packaging design to create a design which outlives its desire to shout out on a shelf but to also look great in your home. I did this by letting the colours and textures of the food shine out behind the colours of the inmould design. For special customers and presents this was all wrapped up with hand picked traditional tablecloth patterns.
To create more social awareness for the product, the idea arose to create postcards that people could pick up at markets, stores or be sent directly. People could then use these postcards to send to their friends or family to let them know about this dairy secret.
